BREWERIES & DISTILLERIES

Brewery premises handover checklist

shared areas and outstanding work

A brewery premises handover should tell production, dispatch and visitor-area teams what remains restricted or unfinished. This checklist guide focuses on shared operational work without replacing brewing, distilling or batch-release controls.

Plan the routine around your site

Separate production-process controls from shared premises rounds, dispatch preparation and any public taproom routines. Define the areas each role may access and the observations it is trained to make. The outgoing team should reference ongoing maintenance and restrictions that affect the next team’s routes or work areas. Do not ask a general premises check to determine vessel condition, pressure-system readiness, atmosphere safety or product release. Record the assigned housekeeping task and actual result, including an access restriction. Give unfinished work an owner across departmental boundaries so a dispatch or visitor-area finding does not disappear at the production handover.

Agree the assigned role, due window, expected record and escalation route with the people who do and review the work. Include an honest outcome for work that could not be completed, with a reason and a next action.

What to include in the checklist

These are planning examples. Adapt the questions and timing to your approved procedures and the person’s responsibilities.

Premises readiness and process approval are different decisions

A shared-area walkround records its observations and restrictions. Authorised process controls, specialist inspections and product decisions remain in their own approved records.

Give the next shift enough context

A damaged accessible door fitting is noticed on the dispatch corridor. The reporter identifies the location and follows the restriction and escalation process without entering a restricted production area. The maintenance reference and temporary arrangement are passed to the dispatch lead. The authorised repair outcome stays linked to the original premises report.

Identify the area or asset, the observation, the actual result, the immediate action and who was informed. Attach useful evidence where safe and permitted. A photograph supports a finding without establishing its cause.

  1. Keep the original observation and time.
  2. Assign a specific next action and agree when it will be reviewed.
  3. Record the later outcome and authorised verification beside the finding.

Read the guide to writing a useful fault report for a closer look at the evidence record.

Review the work still needing attention

Review findings that pass between production, dispatch and public-facing teams. Look for repeated access exceptions and maintenance actions carried forward without a review point. Keep completed premises work distinguishable from any process, pressure-system or batch approval so the operational summary represents its actual scope.

Review completion and outstanding actions together. A missing routine and a completed routine with a failure need different follow-up. The weekly manager review guide explains how to move from the summary to the source record.

Try the routine in CheckControl

Start with an existing routine, add its questions and instructions, and agree the assignment and due window. Staff can record answers and findings on their phones; managers can review the record and follow-up. Use the relevant PDF or Excel export for your authorised review. The public demo uses fictional people, findings and evidence.

Common questions

Can a premises finding pass between departments?

Yes. Keep the area or asset reference, current restriction and next owner together, while specialist work continues through its authorised maintenance or process system.

What is the scope of this guide?

Use competent arrangements for machinery, pressure systems, substances, fire and explosion risks and food-production controls. This guide contains no process settings, isolation instructions or batch-release criteria.
