PHONE & COMPUTER REPAIR SHOPS

Device repair shop opening checklist

benches and customer-area readiness

Phone and computer repair shops need clear bench references and an orderly handover. These opening checklist examples focus on premises and shared tools while customer-device data and repair authorisation keep their separate controls.

Plan the routine around your site

Divide the routine into customer reception, assigned repair benches, storage routes and shared facilities. Read the previous handover before assigning a bench so any tool or equipment restriction is visible. Record only the operational readiness work within the person’s training, with specialist electrical, battery and soldering procedures handled through the approved process. Customer devices, credentials and repair consent belong in the designated job system rather than a premises finding. A clear opening record names the bench and actual outcome, then gives an unfinished task an owner. Closing should identify restrictions carried into the next repair shift.

Agree the assigned role, due window, expected record and escalation route with the people who do and review the work. Include an honest outcome for work that could not be completed, with a reason and a next action.

What to include in the checklist

These are planning examples. Adapt the questions and timing to your approved procedures and the person’s responsibilities.

A bench checklist should not collect customer credentials

Use bench and shared-asset references for operational findings. Customer data, repair consent and device access belong in the authorised job workflow with its own privacy and access controls.

Give the next shift enough context

The team notices a loose fitting on a shared bench lamp at bench TR-02. It records the asset and follows the withdrawal process without examining a customer device. The outgoing lead identifies an available alternative and assigns the lamp finding for authorised assessment. The next shift sees the original observation and later outcome.

Identify the area or asset, the observation, the actual result, the immediate action and who was informed. Attach useful evidence where safe and permitted. A photograph supports a finding without establishing its cause.

  1. Keep the original observation and time.
  2. Assign a specific next action and agree when it will be reviewed.
  3. Record the later outcome and authorised verification beside the finding.

Read the guide to writing a useful fault report for a closer look at the evidence record.

Review the work still needing attention

Review findings on shared bench tools that affect several staff members. Check whether restrictions remain visible when bench assignments change and whether missed routines arise during busy collections. Keep the premises record free of customer device contents or credentials, while preserving enough location detail to act on the finding.

Review completion and outstanding actions together. A missing routine and a completed routine with a failure need different follow-up. The weekly manager review guide explains how to move from the summary to the source record.

Try the routine in CheckControl

Start with an existing routine, add its questions and instructions, and agree the assignment and due window. Staff can record answers and findings on their phones; managers can review the record and follow-up. Use the relevant PDF or Excel export for your authorised review. The public demo uses fictional people, findings and evidence.

Common questions

What reference should a repair-shop finding use?

Use the bench, area or shared-equipment identifier. Keep the customer repair job and any personal device data in the designated repair system.

What is the scope of this guide?

Follow competent electrical, battery, soldering and device-handling procedures. These examples do not authorise a repair or collect customer device data.
