Plan the routine around your site
Build the opening round around reception, garment storage, accessible work routes and the shared facilities assigned to the person completing it. Read the previous close before accepting the first customer so unresolved equipment or access restrictions remain visible. Specialist cleaning equipment, solvents and ventilation require their approved checks and trained operators; reference those records where relevant rather than copying technical settings into a general form. Keep customer garment identifiers and personal information in the appropriate order system. The premises checklist should identify a location, actual observation and next action when a readiness task cannot be completed.
Agree the assigned role, due window, expected record and escalation route with the people who do and review the work. Include an honest outcome for work that could not be completed, with a reason and a next action.
What to include in the checklist
These are planning examples. Adapt the questions and timing to your approved procedures and the person’s responsibilities.
| Routine | Work to define | Useful record |
|---|---|---|
| Reception opening | Complete assigned front-of-house readiness tasks. | Area, time and actual outcome. |
| Storage routes | Inspect the agreed accessible garment-storage routes. | Aisle reference and obstruction response. |
| Shared facilities | Record approved facilities preparation and cleaning. | Task result and any exception. |
| Specialist record reference | Refer to required authorised equipment checks. | Record reference and responsible operator. |
| Premises finding | Report visible defects within staff scope. | Location or asset and action taken. |
| Shift continuity | Pass unfinished work to the next lead. | Owner and agreed review time. |
Keep specialist cleaning instructions in the approved procedure
A general opening routine should reference the trained operator’s required records. It must not encourage untrained staff to change equipment settings, handle chemicals or enter restricted work areas.
Give the next shift enough context
A loose rail fitting is observed beside reception aisle DC-03. The team reports its location and follows the premises restriction procedure before using the affected storage position. The manager assigns assessment and records the temporary storage arrangement. The next reception team sees the restriction and later authorised outcome together.
Identify the area or asset, the observation, the actual result, the immediate action and who was informed. Attach useful evidence where safe and permitted. A photograph supports a finding without establishing its cause.
- Keep the original observation and time.
- Assign a specific next action and agree when it will be reviewed.
- Record the later outcome and authorised verification beside the finding.

Review the work still needing attention
Review repeated storage-route obstructions and reception findings that remain unresolved between shifts. Separate general premises completion from the required specialist equipment records. Check whether staff can locate the reported fitting or aisle from the record without exposing customer order information in a shared report.
Review completion and outstanding actions together. A missing routine and a completed routine with a failure need different follow-up. The weekly manager review guide explains how to move from the summary to the source record.

Try the routine in CheckControl
Start with an existing routine, add its questions and instructions, and agree the assignment and due window. Staff can record answers and findings on their phones; managers can review the record and follow-up. Use the relevant PDF or Excel export for your authorised review. The public demo uses fictional people, findings and evidence.
Common questions
Should customer garment details be in the opening checklist?
Only include information needed for the operational task. Keep customer orders and personal details in their approved system and use area or equipment references for premises findings.
What is the scope of this guide?
Use the business’s competent equipment, substance-control and ventilation arrangements. Customer garment and payment information belongs in the designated order system.
